The range of new products launched on the classic car scene each year never ceases to amaze us and 2002 has been no exception. We've selected the best of the bunch so you can see what's hit the stores. Even Santa's considering trading in his sleigh for the new Spyder chassis.

Spyder Engineering's Elan chassis with Zetec engine conversion: a bold attempt to keep the Lotus super-classic on the road as an everyday proposition well into the 21st century
Ford Zetec-engined Lotus Elan Plus 2 Chassis
price: £1595 (for chassis)
IN APRIL, Spyder Engineering launched its new chassis for the Lotus Elan Plus 2. It aims at bringing state of the art power and handling to an ageing Lotus Elan Plus 2, and we can vouch for this after driving one for ourselves (side by side, August 2001). The Spyder chassis is designed to accept the Ford Zetec twin-cam engine mated to a Ford MT75 Gearbox and a Ford Scorpio limited-slip diff. Spyder Engineering can also supply brakes, steering and suspension packages to complete the running gear, and its latest demonstrator should be available now. We were so impressed with the car we've dedicated a series to building one - it'll appear in the new year.
